Telemedicine Visits
To our patients and families,
In light of the current COVID-19 outbreak we are now offering telemedicine visits to our patients. Starting Tuesday, March 24th you will be able to schedule a virtual appointment with one of our pediatricians for specific types of visits. We are using the doxy.me platform and are excited to be able to serve our patients while allowing people to stay at home whenever possible per the recommendations of the CDC and AAP. See below for more information about telemedicine visits.
What types of visits can be a telemedicine visit?
Many mild to moderate symptoms can be seen through telemedicine. Examples of this include fever, cold symptoms, allergy symptoms, mild vomiting and diarrhea, rashes, ADHD/depression/anxiety medication checks, and behavioral concerns.
How do I make a telemedicine appointment?
Call our office at 804-282-4210 as usual. When you call to schedule a telemedicine appointment a trained staff member will ask you some questions to determine if you are a good candidate for a telemedicine visit. If you are, we will schedule your appointment and give you further instructions. If our staff determines that it would be better for you to be seen in person we will continue to have appointments for in-person sick visits in the afternoon.
What types of visits CANNOT be a telemedicine visit?
Due to the nature of the visit, well child checks cannot be done through telemedicine. Additionally, any symptoms that would require an in-person examination (such as concern for ear infection or more severe symptoms) cannot be done through telemedicine.
What technical requirements are there for telemedicine visits?
All you need is a smart phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone. There are no downloads required.
Does my insurance cover telemedicine visits?
Yes! You will be required to pay a copay as usual based on your insurance plan for all sick visits. Payment will be taken at the time of scheduling.
Is my private health information secure through telemedicine?
Yes. Doxy.me is a HIPAA compliant platform.
Please note that if, during your telemedicine visit, we determine that further testing is needed we may require you to come to the office (e.g., for a strep test). Whenever possible we will perform testing at your car to limit the amount of people coming into the office. This will not incur an additional copay.
At the moment, due to severe shortage in available testing, we do not have the ability to test for the coronavirus. If we feel that testing is indicated based on the current guidelines we will refer you to the appropriate place.
Thank you for working with us and entrusting us with your childs care during this time.
